Editing log

If it's a bit thin it's because I spent more time EDITING THAN LOGGING. Fair enough? The proof is in the pudding as one would say, 'one' being me that is! Haha!

Completed!

After getting all the technical mumbo-jumbo out of the way I have completed my second and final film for this course. I made the video fit to 720p but I did have to scale up the footage somewhat so the quality isn't super-perfect. Nonetheless it still looks good and in glorious widescreen that really changes the how professional looking my film is. Take a look for yourself:

(Just Double click the video as this blog is too clumsy to fit the video in appropriately)
As you can see not much has changed in content but the viewing experience is much enhanced. This was a fundamental aspect to consider in making this work as an immersive display.

16:9

With my uploaded video on Youtube I got increasingly annoyed with the black frame surrounding my film as the actual content is widescreen. I am now learning about how to convert the FCP movie to be displayed how I want. Another thing is that the video quality was only 480p at best where as 720p is where it's at, it would make the text actually visible (even though the words aren't there to be read so much as look good). I will now proceed to get it working!

Whoopsie-daisy

I missed last lesson of NCFE film (you're imagination can make up why) so for that I apologise, to the non-existent people out there and the hungry blog that wants some more content; I'm sorry. The only thing I have is this advice: When creating an account on a website (such as Facebook, blogger.com, Flickr etc.) try and refrain from making it humourous as it is more tempting to tell people.

Stay classy Sa-- Oh, I already did that joke...

Work in progress from an FNG

Test with a bit of text, I will probably try and do more with time. I plan to alter the aspect ratio so it plays in true widescreen, not this strange boxed version.I hope you like this so far...

Text test!

This is both a preview of my film but with text experimentations that I could possibly implement into my film. Based on these ideas I think it couldn't hurt to put a bit of text in, especially considering I have plenty of time to work on this.

The dummy text is based on wikipedia's definition of light.

Thankfully this is a much more interesting post for all you sneaky readers out there.

Second shooting log

This is the second shooting log, based on the more accurate filming due to my reflection of the first session. The inverted section is where I shot at night which proved a much more successful than day thanks to the contrast of light and dark.

Moosic

I have decided upon new music to accompany my visuals, providing a more ambient feel, and, at a longer length, gives me more control on the duration which is always nice. I don't want to clutter up this page much more with another embedded object so instead I will clutter it up with a super long link for you to so loyaly follow:
This song was difficult to obtain over the internet at a high quality so I went and bought it in a nice legal fashion over iTunes. That's 79p I'll never get back, this film better be worth it I tell you that!

Video log and update on project.

GOOD AFTERNOON
Thought I'd have a bit of fun there...

Here we are with the first of my video logs for this project. During filming my idea developed into that I could film lights, with their soft glow and illuminating presence. Their geometric form works well I found and I enjoy the effect the camera makes when it switches its focus and exposure in an automatic way.

I also wanted to blend in some soft/blurry forms that are indecipherable or just ambiguous. Either way my project is changing slightly to my original intentions, I no longer want footageof recognisable fashion, like a face or crashing waves. I will shoot more in reflection of this.

To Heal

I'm pretty sick of having embedded objects cluttering up my page but I kind of need to share this. This the music I mainly want to be the soundtrack to my film. The duration is 2:36 which will most likely govern the time my final piece is allocated (2:36 or less). Underworld created it and I first heard it when it was in the film 'Sunshine' based on the novel by Alex Garland.

Coincidentally the design team 'Tomato' have also done work for Underworld, I found this out after I wanted to use this track mind.

My film will blates be better ;]

Action plan and Reference.

I haven't been influenced by videos I have seen as Alphabet by Tomato, here are screen grabs of the mood that has particularly inspired me.

Here is my upload of my plan of action. Not much to say here other than here you go!

Still alive

Nah I'm not dead, I just missed the last episode of camp John Clamp (AKA a lesson of film NCFE) due to an interview at Brighton University. Anywho I have two things to share in this post so be prepared to have you mind blown away.

This is just my project proposal for the second film I intend to produce.

And here's a picture I did of John Clamp!
That is all.

Finished film one.

I have completed my first independent film on this course. Awesome. Here it is for all to see:

Im not entirely sure if it's being displayed at the moment as this computer fails to play Youtube videos - how pathetic. Oh, you also my the recognise the scream at the end, in particular if you watch Q.I.

Storyboard ahoy!

My proposal can't be uploaded right now so I will provide you with a taster of my next project. The storyboard only has vague ideas of some of the shots I would like to feature, it's mainly the editing aspect I am interested in with the footage being a rough foundation.

Ideas, thoughts and screams.

Right.
Well to start off I have just finished screaming my throat out into my camera so I can have audio for my film, I'll give you a preview.
I don't think my camera has an audio only feature so I just held my hand over the lens. Oh and it's not to be taken really seriously. Just to provoke some kind of reaction, whether funny or meaningful.

As for ideas I was quite inspired by the use of text and imagery in the recent film that was shown to us, I think it was called Alphabet by Tomato but I can't quite remember... I will look it up more as well as search on Youtube for more inspiring films. Basically I would like to involve another collection of random imagery alike my first film but develop it and try to go down the path of visual splendor as apposed to an attack of sound and image.
I'll keep y'all posted. Cheerio.

Lomo-agogo

I edited all the photographs I took using trusty Photoshop to enhance their look, hoping to cheaply imitate the happy-go-lucky appearance of Lomo photography. If you like it you should check out the tutorial at the bottom of the picture that demonstrates the effect. I'm sure you can figure out which ones are the originals...

Ta-Da!

Hi, here's my film reel - not all of them are making the cut as I will select my favourites and probably go at them with the ye olde photoshoppe. You may wanna click on the small picture to get the big picture!

Oh and if you're thinking these are some lame, miserable attempts at photography then please read my other posts as they will explain the mood I was trying to set and would suggest these images are a success; which I think they are.

Storyboard? You bet!

Here is something I did but forgot to upload, think of it as a rough guideline/plan for my photographs. At this current time though I have already got the film developed so just take my word that they weren't done simultaneously or the storyboard is merely an afterthought.

OMFG another post.

Just an update on what's been happening in my life because I know you all probably have carpal tunnel syndrome from mashing that refresh key all day. I have been taking photos with this throw-away camera down here:

How did I take this photo you ask? With my new Canon PowerShot SX 200 IS! The reason I'm not using this fancy-pancy alternative is that I want my images to really look amateur, spontaneous and rough. I don't think using a digital camera can do justice compared to the unpredictable nature of film.

I also have an Idea of what to do for the audio aspect of the slideshow film, I want to simply scream many times and edit it so it makes for a very strange, confusing experience for the audience. Now I just have to find places to scream without waking babies or setting off car alarms.

OH YEAH, one other thing.
I forgot to fill out the health and safety quiz today, it closed at 9:00 am which I don't feel is entirely fair as that technically isn't a week seeing as it opened at 1:00pm last friday. Nonetheless I hope I can get another opportunity otherwise I've failed this NCFE and consequently my whole life.

Reference/Inspiration

Here are some inspirational images that will guide me toward an achievable goal whilst giving you insight into the kind of thing I'm about yo.

The Creative review blog did a bit on Polaroid cameras and the last two photographers (Matt Stuart and Jane Stockdale) caught my eye in particular with their arbitrary charm, like a child might take a photo with a subconscious eye for overlooked things in life.

This notion is strengthened by the film in One Hour Photo with Robin Williams, where he comes accross a child's set of prints and finds it refreshing compared with the same old photos that people usually get developed at his photo developing booth. I would link it but I can't find it on youtube. If you have seen it then you'd know what I'm talking about, if not see the film - I guarantee you'll enjoy it unless you're some kind of monster with no appreciation of Robin Williams' pathetic-ness.

Heeey (Flickr)

Hello fellow bloggers! This website is very cumbersome and fiddly!
Here is a link to my Flickr so you can add me on that if you want and our internet friendship can expand into infinity and beyond! It will also let me try out some fancy HTML stuff:

Film Idea?

Hi. This is an entry into my blog. I want to discuss what I want to do with my mini project we have been assigned to develop, and the fun starts here! I want to record an eclectic sort of imagery, objects and things of everyday convention and depict them in a endearing fashion. A testament to hidden visual charm. At least I hope to. Taking things out of context, transforming say a chair into an abstract form.

For example think about the pretentious scene in American beauty where Ricky Fitts films a plastic bag blowing in the wind with a piece of music that has since then been overused by heart-touching documentaries. Here is an extract in case you don't know what I am talking about, when I do it though don't expect such extravagant commentary.

Test(icle) Video

Session one - intro to NCFE

Good afternoon

Well this is my first entry so go easy on the judging. My name is Milo and I'm doing this as part of an NCFE course in film. Because only about 3 people will ever read this I suppose I can be quite careless in what I write, maybe even slip a little curse word in to see if anyone will mind. Or maybe not, whatever.
bum
So I decided to do this course for the very same generic reason that you would expect; because it sounded interesting. And so far I'm having a blast. Just think of this as a journal or diary that is socially acceptable for you to read like the voyeur you are. Hey, if you are reading this then you can't possibly claim you're not and if you don't read it then it can't offend you! So yeah, take that.
